The black wolf opened his eyes and watched the wolf run through the area, probably not the smartest decision on that hurt leg, but he seemed fine. Casually, the black wolf stretched himself among the dead leaves. He could not help but wonder what that silly running wolf was going on about. Though he was used to traveling in the dark, it seemed that he would be traveling through the light for now.

The wolf finally came to a stop. The he-wolf walked back up to the water, drinking slowly. He smiled at the beautiful morning. Then, reddish-brown wolf walked up to the other wolf. "Well, I think I shall leave within these next one or two days, so there is nothing to worry about. I shall look for food. If you want to come, you can. If you don't, don't. It's up to you," he said to the black wolf and turned away.

The dark wolf nodded softly. "Yes, I shall be going now. I have my own matters to attend to. Good luck to you," he offered gently. He genuinely did hope that the wolf would be alright out here, but it truly was none of his business, and he had no intention of interfering.

The wolf turned around. He walked slowly away from the other he-wolf. He searched for his food for the day. As he entered a forest, he saw a nice squirrel scurrying along. He smiled. "Hey, fellow." He crouched down and slowly crawled toward the squirrel. When the wolf close enough, he pounced on the little animal. Within seconds the squirrel was in the wolf's mouth.

Eager to make up for the previous night's delay, he ran into the day, his fur swaying vigorously in the rush of the wind, and his breath maintained a relax pace. The brilliant daylight splintered into his eyes, but his light blue eyes merely blinked away the pain. He was a survivor. No better word could be used to describe him, and he was content with that. He had endured so many pains, emotional and physical, but he never let that stop him. He was on a quest, a quest to find a different Paradise than most wolves sought.

After eating the squirrel, the male wolf walked into the forest. He thought deeply about his upcoming journey. He no longer had to live near the forest or sleep on the harsh ground. He could live in the ocean once again. It would be paradise. Paradise! The word rang through his mind. It made him remember something. Still, he pushed it aside.

As he thought about Paradise, a pang of fear shot into his heart, and that stabbing pain sunk deep within him. "Stay out of my head..." he commanded the forlorn memories. "Stay out..." He reached a peak in the ground then and was able to look out and see all of the fields ahead of him. In the distance, a long bridge across the ocean existed. He needed to reach that, and that would be one of the first gates to Paradise. He tilted his head back and howled. His sorrow, his pain, and his hope rang through that sound.

The wolf heard a howl. He knew that the wolf he was with had produced that music. The wolf quickly dug a hole in the ground to bury the squirrel's bones. He piled the dirt back over the hole and bones. He ran as fast as he could in the direction he heard the wolf at--he had forgotten where he had came from. As he was running, he thought about how much wolf's emotions were put into the sound. It felt so sad and sorrowful.

Gradually, the note of the howl faded. He smiled to himself. His sadness and pain was his own, a sign that he was still alive. As long as life still blazed within him, his mission was still possible. The impossible could still be done, and he was still at the head of that trail. There was a long way to go yet, and he was alone. He had no problem with that whatsoever. With a grim yet proud spirit burning in his chest, his feet shot out into the dark, running not as fast as he could but at a good speed nonetheless.

When he arrived to where the other wolf was, he saw that he was running. "Oh..." He paused for a brief moment. "I guess I should not have came. I was stupid for coming." Then, the wolf lifted his nose in the air. He could smell something that had been calling him ever since the wreck. Water! But it was not the river he had been sleeping near. It was the ocean. It was not the same one he had previously been in, though. Before he went off, he placed his paw deep into the ground, hoping the other wolf would come back and see it. Maybe there was still a chance that the other wolf wanted to tag along. Just in case, the male wolf lifted his head back and produced a loud and full tune. Hopefully, his howl would travel far. Then, the wolf ran.

The black wolf heard the howl far behind him. It was that wolf he had saved earlier. What was that wolf doing here? The howl was muddled though, and this black wolf could not tell if he was being called or not. He kept running, his feet trailing behind him. The smell of the sea surrounded him, and he was glad for its scent. He was constantly getting closer to the place of his dreams.

(oh, I give up.)
Marrok kept running to the ocean. He could smell it all. The salt. The water. The sand. A wide smile spread across his face. He was finding another ocean. Luckily, he did not have to go back to the other ocean where all of his people.... He tried leaving that thought out of his mind. Finally, as he left the rear of the forest, he abruptly stopped. It was there. The ocean was there. The water glistened as the sun fell on it. Marrok laughed loudly. He still did not enter the water--he wanted to wait for the black wolf.

The black wolf found himself wondering about the wolf he had heard only moments ago. A piece of his conscience tugged at the back of his mind, telling him to go back, but the pull of his dream was pulling him forward and was much stronger. Somewhere out here was the legendary bridge. It had no name, yet it was known to connect this place to the world where Paradise waited, a whole step closer to his true dream.

Marrok looked behind him to see the black wolf approaching. He secretly smiled to himself, happy that the wolf came along. That was when Marrok entered the water that the sun glistened on. He could feel the cool liquid spread over him, refreshing every tense bone and nerve him. It felt better than it ever had before. "You should come in." Marrok paused. "I know you're not the kind of person who would be willing to be friends with anybody, but it shouldn't stop you from enjoying life."

The black wolf spread his eyes. How had the other wolf caught up so quickly? He had not perceived such an instance. His eyes relaxed once more before looking out at the sea. "That bridge is the way to where I am going. Are you going that way too? Even if you're hurt?" He did not particularly care if the other wolf came or not, but he was going across the bridge. It looked long and treacherous, and it would take days to cross it.
