Secrets of the Forest [Dark & Anvil]

In the pale light of the full moon Dark let out a small gasp of air as he stepped into the water of the river. He shook his fur and turned his head to glance back at the tree where he had left his armor.

He lowered his head, causing his chain to dip into the water, and drank from the cold water of the river. Dark’s ears twitched and he raised his head as a gentle breeze blew by causing some leafs to fall from near by trees. ‘This night would be as good as the day’ he thought as he lifted his head and focused his eyes on the full moon, its reflection was mirrored in his blue and green eyes. He turned around and walked back to the tree to put his armor back on.

As he finished putting on his armor he shook his head sighing. “What a dull day. Good but dull.” Dark was relieved to have found this source of water. His tail flicked as he heard a howl from another wolf. He wondered if he should go and join them. Food was scarce in these particular times. He sat down, careful not to sit on his tail, and tilted his head up to let out a howl. Once that howl was done he proceeded to search for the wolf’s camp.

Lyall heard a beautiful howl that was close by. The howl made her smile brilliantly. 'Somewhere is here,' she thought to herself. She did not take immediate action. It was important for her to be cautious before coming across another wolf. Lyall walked slowly towards where she heard the heartfelt howl. As walked, she took in all of the unfamiliar surroundings and sights. The place was so beautiful. It did not have to be light out for her to notice that. In fact, the moonlight made forest look even more beautiful than the day. She sighed deeply as she looked around. Tears almost came to her eyes. She then tried to shove those thoughts out of her head because she was an alpha. She thought that she had to be strong enough to allow her thoughts to be stuck in her mind, not shoved out to the open.

Dark wondered through the woods his paws gently touching the ground barely leaving a mark in the dirt. He looked around and let out another howl into the sky. He picked up speed and began to run. The trees went by as he ran past them he dodged left and right to avoid running into one. Though he did not expect to run into another wolf so soon. He ran into a gray, brown, and white furred wolf. Recovering from surpire Dark looked at the wolf seeing it was clearly a she. "Sorry." He growled.

Lyall smiled when she looked at the unfamiliar wolf. "It's okay. I heard your howl. Sorry for my saying this, but that was the most beautiful howl I have ever heard in my entire life." The female wolf observed the black wolf standing before her. She noticed several white markings on him. The thing that caught her attention the most was the symbol on his head. It was a white crescent moon. Just by looking at the sign, Lyall knew that the moon on the wolf's head was reflecting in her eyes. The male wolf seemed to be a few years younger than herself. Then, there was something else that Lyall saw on the new wolf. It was his eyes. One was green and the other was blue. His eyes were so beautiful. "Hi," Lyall said to the complete stranger.

Dark looked at her and narrowed his eyes. "Your staring." He told her simply. He turned away from her and started to walk away but stopped. He turned to face her, he looked into her brown eyes(just assuming) and said slowly. "You can come with if you want. Though i don't advise it." With that have being said he took of yet again into the woods. He didn't need to look back to know she was following him. To the left he saw something move. A rabbit. He stopped imedatly. Food was rare in the last forest. He sniffed the air catching its scent the bush moved slightly. He jumped forward and it barely evaded his jaws. "Damn." He charged at it as it tired to flee. He jumped at it yet again catching it this time. He crushed its head with his jaws and dropped its lifeless body to the ground.

Lyall watched the wolf crush the rabbit. It was not the prettiest sight, or sound for that matter, but that was the way wolves lived. They hunted for food and that was the way it was done. "It seems like you have nice hunting skills for someone your age. It's very impressive. But don't get to cocky about it because you are still young and immature. Well, I guess I can't really judge because I don't know you. Either way, you are good. How long have you been out on your own? If you don't mind me asking." Lyall looked at the wolf, but made a conscious effort not to stare.

Dark looked at her glaring. "How old do you think I am! I've been on my own since I can remembe!" He walked up to her and snapped his jaws. "Have you ever been poked with an iron rod that had been heated till it was red?! If you knew anything about me you wouldn't dare talk to me that way!" He looked at her then turned to his kill. He put a paw on it and grabbed a leg with his jaws and ripped it off. He laid down and began to chew on it.

Lyall sighed softly under her breath. "I'm sorry. When I see a lone wolf, or a wolf pack for that matter, I like to help. It's an instinct of mine and I can't help it. I'm extremely sorry for offending you. I will be more than willing to leave and go on my own way if you do not like me." Lyall was about to walk away, but then paused and looked back at the black wolf. "How often does a wolf come to you and is nice to you? How many come to you and try to care and help? It doesn't seem to me that you are with anybody right now, so I don't think that you have had much luck." Lyall turned her back to the wolf and began walking away.

Sighing Dark looked up from his snack. "Just get over here and eat." He looked over at her his voice was much kinder than last time... Nearly seductive. "I haven't seen many of my kind that wasn't in some sort of gambling event made by humans." Dark looked down at the dead rabbit. "Feel no pity for me." He thought back as images flashed across his mind. The cruel things he had been forced to do. The many ways he had learned to kill. And all the pain he had suffered came back to him in a flood of emotions. He bit back the saddened howl he was about to let out. "And for your information I'm three. And i will soon be four."

Lyall walked over to Dark. "You know, I haven't met many wolves like you. You are very different. Most wolves would love for me to help. I guess you're just a different kind of wolf. I guess you are not too younger, but you are a few years younger than me. But I guess that doesn't matter too much. For all I know, you could have much more experience than me. I guess age does not matter in this case." Lyall could see the pain in his different colored eyes.

"Age should not matter at all. And your rare. Your the first Female wolf who hasn't asked me to mate with them. You haven't even said a word aboutmy eyes." He blinked at her and tilted his head his chain clinking. "I find it odd that every female has an istinct to mate. And why is it they ask me? I wish i could figure that out." Dark took a bigger bit from his rabbit then looked at her and tossed her a peice. "Have some food is rare. I hope to find more tommorow."

Lyall nodded. "Maybe it's because the other females have no other interests in life. Maybe they don't have any goals or ambitions. So, they just rely on a mate to make them happy. Having a pack is all I wish for. Being an alpha is my ambition. I love to help others. And maybe they think you are attracting. Maybe it's love at first sight. I'm not a big fan of that kind of stuff myself, but we can't help it. When we know that we love someone, we just do."

Dark shrugged and looked up at the moon. "Life is strange. You want a pack. And for a pack you have to mate. Yet you clam you do not wish to mate. And besides i would bring nothing but pain to my mate. And even of i did have one they would only slow me down." He looked at her then returned his gaze to the moon and let out another howl. He loved to howl it was in his soul so how could he do anything but howl and kill. He had been trained to kill but he was diffrent and he knew it but how? He howled yet again.

Lyall watched the wolf howl for a moment and then looked away. She did not really like the way he talked. She did not like the way he could shut people down so easily. "So, if you don't want a mate, what do you want to do with your life? You are hard to read. I don't understand where you are coming from. Then again, it's not my business. Like I've said, I enjoy helping." Lyall decided to stay quite. She knew it was rude to interrupt a wolf's howling.

Dark looked at her and shook his head his chain clinking. "You want to be helpful? Then you keep first watch once we get to my den." He looked over at her and started to walk away. He walked along next to the trees. "And I'm not sure what i want to do. The hardest thing is to live and i'm having a hard time with that. And besides I never said i wouldn't mate. I just haven't found the right partner yet." He turned to a small bush and walked through it into the den he had made.
